AIRPORTS

Anyone that has any interest in the events around the world concerning air travel and its associated security, will realise how vitally important it is to safeguard not only passengers, but the lives of everyone. You only need to look at the appalling disaster in New York on September 11th 2001.

Since the conception of air travel, there have always been strict security measures in force at airports all over the world. If a bomb detonates inside an aircraft, it is not only the passengers and flight-crew on board who are at risk, but also those on the ground beneath its flight-path.

Surveillance here starts outside the main airport building. If you travel to the airport using your own transport, you may park in a long-stay car-park. These are monitored 24hrs a day by CCTV cameras linked to the main control-room. How easy it would be to break in to a car parked amongst a thousand others. (Not so easy to steal it however, with tickets and barriers in place).

Once inside the terminal building, CCTV cameras monitor everything that’s going on, from individuals behaving strangely to unattended luggage and parcels.

When you check in, the luggage that will be deposited in the cargo-hold of the plane is scanned for any suspicious items before it is declared safe to load on.

As you pass through Immigration and into the departure lounge, your hand-luggage will be scanned similarly for any items you may have that are deemed dangerous to the well-being of other passengers or the aircraft itself. If found, they will be removed; and depending upon what is discovered – you may be removed also!!
